Behaviour in Vulcanization

NAFTOCIT Di 13 is an ultra-accelerator, used either alone or as a secondary accelerator for the fast vulcanizing of natural and synthetic latex and also solid rubber types such as NR, SBR, EPDMI IIR, IR and NBR.

NAFTOCIT Di 13 is also an activator for accelerators of the thiuram (TMT), mercapto (MBT) or sulphenamide (CBS) classes. Basic accelerators, however, have an activating effect on NAFTOCIT Di 13.

Very rapid and efficient combinations can be obtained in conjunction with other ultra-accelerators of the dithiocarbamate group, such as NAFTOCIT Di 4 or NAFTOCIT Di 7.

Latex compounds incorporatig NAFTOCIT Di 13 show reliable curing characteristics and shelf life. There is a good plateau effect in vulcanization at temperatures below 120 °C. Compared to NAFTOCIT Di 4 and NAFTOCIT Di 7, NAFTOCIT Di 13 shows the fastest vulcanizing in latex.

NAFTOCIT Di 13 as a sole accelerator in latex mixtures also produces no thickening, even over prolonged storage periods, no discoloration and no offensive taste or odour in the vulcanizates.

As a combination accelerator NAFTOCIT Di 13 is of high efficiency in solid rubber compounds.

It has proved particularly effective as a non-blooming accelerator in FPDM-vulcanizates. Solid rubber compounds incorporatig NAFTOCIT Di 13 show relatively reliable curing charachteristics which are enhanced by the addition of retarders or NAFTOCIT Thiuram 16.

Typical fields of application

White and light-coloured latex goods such as carpet backings, foam rubber or latex, dipped products, etc.; rubber threads, rubberized textiles; soft rubber products such as bathing caps, bath mats; physiologically harmless (non-toxic) rubber goods; footwear, transparent rubber soles and heels; as an antioxidant in adhesives and adhesive foils; cable coverings and wire insulations; non-blooming EPDM-vulcanizates.

Dosage

The concentrations generally used are:

In latex compounds:
- 0.5 - 1.5 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 13 as sole accelerator with 2.5 phr (by wt.) sulphur
- 0.1 - 0.3 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 13 in combination with 0.4 - 0.8 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 7 + 2 - 2.5 phr (by wt.) sulphur
- 0.8 - 1.5 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 13 in combination with 0.2 - 0.6 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT ZMBT and 2.5 phr (by wt.) sulphur.

In solid rubber compounds:
- 0.1 - 0.8 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 13 in combination with 0.5 - 1.0 phr (by wt.)
NAFTOCIT MBT, NAFTOCIT MBTS or NAFTOCIT Thiuram 16 + 1.5 - 2.5 phr (by wt.) sulphur.
