Behaviour in Vulcanization
Ultra-accelerator for natural and synthetic rubbers and their latices Chemical description: Zine-dimethyldithiocarbamate
C6H12N2S4Zn
CAS Reg. No.: 137-30-4 Molecular weight: 306NAFTOCIT Di 4 is an ultra-accelerator, used either alone or as a secondary accelerator, for the fast vulcanization of natural and synthetic latex and also solid rubber types such as NR, SBR, FPDM, IIR, IR and NBR. NAFTOCIT Di 4 gives a fast cure, high modulus and short scorch times.
NAFTOCIT Di 4 is also an activator for accelerators of the Thiuram (TMT), mercapto (MBT) or sulphenamide (CBS) classes. Basic accelerators, however, have an activating effect on NAFTOCIT Di 4.
Very rapid and efficient combinations can be obtained in conjunction with other ultra-accelerators of the dithiocarbamate group, such as NAFTOCIT Di 7 or NAFTOCIT Di 13. In comparison with the allied ultra-accelerators NAFTOCIT Di 7 and Di 13, it has a less marked accelerating action in latex. lt is not conducive to prevulcanizing at room temperature but has a strong accelerating effect at temperatures above 100 °C. This ensures safe and reliable curing, which is also encouraged by the broad vulcanizing plateau effect.
NAFTOCIT Di 4 as a sole accelerator in latex mixtures also produces no thickening, even over prolonged storage periods, no discoloration and no offensive taste or odour of the vulcanizates.
As a combination accelerator NAFTOCIT Di 4 is particulariy effective in solid rubber compounds.
Typical fields of application
White and light-coloured latex goods such as carpet backings, foam rubber or latex, dipped products, etc.; rubber threads, rubberized textiles; soft rubber produets such as bathing caps, bath mats; footwear, transparent rubber soles and heels; adhesives and adhesive foils; cabie coverings and wire insulations.
Dosage
The concentrations generally used are:
In latex compounds:
- 0.5 - 1.5 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 4 as sole accelerator with 2.5 phr (by wt.) sulphur
- 0.4 - 0.8 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 4 in combination with 0.1 - 0.3 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 7 + 1.5 - 2 phr (by wt.) sulphur
- 0.8 - 1.5 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 4 in combination with 0.2 - 0.6 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT ZMBT and 2.5 phr (by wt.) sulphur. In solid rubber compounds: - 0.1 - 0.8 phr (by wt.) NAFTOCIT Di 4 in combination with 0.5 - 1.0 phr (by wt.)
